Biosketch

Adj Professor Graeme MacLaren is the Head of Division of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) and an Intensive Care Physician at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS). Adj Prof MacLaren graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and trained in critical care medicine at St Vincent's Hospital, The Alfred Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital. He undertook additional post-fellowship training in perioperative echocardiography and infectious diseases. He also has a Masters degree in Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

He has published more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, reviewed for more than 80 medical journals, co-authored over 30 textbook chapters, edited 6 textbooks, and given over 300 presentations at international conferences across North America, Europe and Asia. He has been heavily involved with the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) since 2011, was the Inaugural Chair of its Asia-Pacific Chapter, and currently serves on the Board of Directors. He also serves on the editorial boards of four journals in the fields of critical care medicine and infectious diseases and is an Associate Editor for three of them. In 2023, he became the first President of ELSO in the history of the organization from outside the USA.
