Electrophysiology and Pacing

EP pic 2.jpg

Electrophysiology is a subspeciality that deals with heart rhythm problems. These can be rhythms that are too fast, too slow, or irregular. A simple procedure is performed to determine the mechanism for the heart rhythm abnormality with the aim of curing it with ablation.  Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) include pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy and loop recorders. Pacemakers are used to treat slow heart rates. Defibrillators rescue high-risk patients from cardiac arrest. Cardiac resynchronization therapy improves function and survival in suitable heart failure patients. Loop recorders are used to continuously monitor heart rhythm to reach a diagnosis.
