Consultant Department of Cardiology, NUHCS

Assistant Professor Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS

Assistant Professor William Kok-Fai Kong graduated from the Auckland University, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) . He completed advanced specialist training in Cardiology in Christchurch Hospital and Wellington Hospital in New Zealand. He was admitted as a fellow of Royal Australasian College of Physician (FRACP) in Cardiology in 2011.

He obtained the Academic Medicine Development Award (AMDA) in 2014 to undergo subspecialty training in interventional echocardiography, structural heart disease/valvular heart disease in Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands under the supervision of Dr Victoria Delgado and Professor Jeroen J Bax, the immediate past president of European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He is also undergoing PhD study at the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) at Leiden, the Netherlands examining the epidemiology, clinical, genetics and imaging aspects of bicuspid aortic valve and aortopathy.

He was subsequently elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology in 2017, and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology in 2018. He was appointed as Specialty Editor in Cardiology for Singapore Medical Journal since 2016.

Currently, he is running a weekly Valve Clinic to follow up patients with valvular heart disease and to provide transesopahgeal echocardiography and stress echocardiography services in NUH. He is also a member of the Heart Team providing echocardiographic assessment/support for transcatheter therapies for patients who deemed high risk for surgery. He chairs the Valve Round every fortnight and is actively involved in the management of patients with valvular heart diseases/structural heart disease.

Assistant Professor Kong has published as first author multiple times in some highest impact factor cardiology journals such as European Heart Journal, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging and JAMA Cardiology . He is a reviewer for several international cardiology journals such as Circulation and Journal of American Society of Echocardiography (JASE).

He supervises research and clinical training for senior residents and clinical fellows from Singapore and overseas. Assistant Professor Kong is currently the primary investigator of a worldwide biggest multi-centre, 3,500 bicuspid aortic valve disease registry. He is also primary and co-investigators in a lot of multi-centre registries.
